‘These Boots are Made for Walking’ sang Nancy Sinatra and that was this month’s style challenge for the ‘5-over-50’ group.
I am a boot lover and have at least a dozen pairs. When the stylist daughter collaborated last year with Buffalo to launch her own collection, I added three new pairs of ankle boots, which I wear all the time. You can read about it here.
I didn’t really ‘need’ any more, but let’s be honest, that has never stopped me from purchasing and when I saw these black over-the-knee leather beauties in a local boutique (‘Paulas’ of Malahide), I simply had to have them.
A few years ago, I might have thought I was ‘too old’ to wear them, but those words do not belong in my vocabulary now. In fact, I already own a pair of high-heeled wine boots, which I wear when I am going ‘car to bar’, in reality it is car to restaurant!
Anyway, my new boots have garnered much admiration; seemingly they are the spit of a much more expensive designer pair! Anyway, what concerns me is the comfort and yes they are ultra-comfortable for walking. Below you can see some photos taken when GG and I were in Kingston-on-Thames recently. My red coat is Karen Millen, bought in Kildare Village shopping outlet seven years ago and the hat is a few years old Christy’s of London, bought in TK Maxx.
The pink coat is also a favourite, from the Bastyan label, bought a few years ago in a Brown Thomas sale.
Anna from annasislandstyle (whose challenge this is) gives us the full ’60s Nancy Sinatra vibe and doesn’t she do it well with her bright colours and faux fur.
Laurie (Vanity and Me Style) gives us a classic look with beautiful ankle boots
Gail (Is This Mutton) goes all black with a touch of leopard. Is that a jungle out there?
Jacqui from MummaBStylish is the only one of us not in black. I love the delicate colour and dainty heel.
To see how my friends dealt with the challenge, hop over to their blogs and get all the details of their styling. I obviously took the challenge literally. My boots are meant for walking; I walked all day in them recently in both London and Dublin (I take my challenges seriously LOL) and they were as comfortable twelve hours later as they were when I put them on in the morning.
Your boots look very stylish and expensive. And good for walking in, result!
Absolutely Gail!!
Wonderful challenge wasn’t it Hilda, all looking fab in our boots. I’m needing some long black boots and will keep on looking for them. Love that pink coat too Hilda, would go very well with my outfit too. x
Thanks Jacqui. Yes we both like that shade!!!
I love the coat too! Karen Millen is one of my favourite labels. You look fabulous here Hilda and if I’d had known you were in Kingston I could have popped there. I live about ten minutes away! xx

Ah no. That is a pity..we will meet again!!!
Oh how love these OTK boots of yours Hilda! I did try on a pair in TK Maxx the day before I came back to the island and have done nothing but think about them ever since. Like you, I’ve banished all thoughts that these boots have an age limit, as long as you rock ’em – which you do!
Anna x
Anna you need them….another trip to London needed..
Love those boots and the red coat, wow, oh and the pink one…..
Ah thanks Jan I love the boots and the bright coats and it looks like this winter could be cold. Getting plenty of wear already..
