I like my shoulders. As shoulders go they are pretty good. There are two of them, they are smooth and so far unlike other parts of my body (my knees obviously) they haven’t started to sag! So I was delighted to see that shoulders had become a bit of a thing in the fashion world this year.
I particularly like the cut-out shoulder as opposed to the off-the shoulder. You don’t have to worry about strapless bras (which I hate) and the hint of an exposed shoulder is discreetly sexy!
So you can imagine my delight when I found what I thought was a lovely top in H&M under €20. I bought it (without trying it on) and arrived home thrilled with my high street bargain. The stylist daughter was taking some photographs of me for my posts and when I arrived out in this top was a little less than complimentary about it. She has often chided me for buying clothes that are too old for me, but this was the first time that she suggested that something might be too young for me!
I reminded her of her mantra of experimenting and changing up one’s style and not getting stuck-in-a-rut; all of which she has levelled at me at one time or another. Sheepishly, she accepted my point.
However, I have been forced to reconsider having looked again at both the photographs and the top. The material is too thin and therefore not flattering. It’s not horrific; I’ve worn worse, but I realise that I have to spend a little more. Yes, you can shop High Street, but you have to be careful. Below is a lovely top I found in Ology, one of my favourite shops in Malahide and while the colour is a little draining on me, it should be very flattering on others. So I am still on the hunt for a top to showcase my shoulders!
