An exciting new venture opened before Christmas on Strand Street in Malahide (Dublin, Ireland). Ology is owned by Lorna and Lisa, both of whom have plenty of experience in retail. Lorna owned and ran Haute Couture for many years before taking some time out to travel and live in Thailand. Now she is back and, in partnership with Lisa Forde (owner of Silk Road Interiors), has opened this lifestyle shop which is a wonderful addition to the village, adding to Malahide’s appeal as a shopping destination. There are only a few items in each style, so the stock changes regularly.
I found some wonderful tops with a paisley pattern priced at €110. There is a real ‘70s’ vibe to these and one style had cut-out arms, very much a trend this season. They look wonderful paired with a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans, which by the way are extremely comfortable, and I found one style well-priced at €69. I also fell in love with this simple white top at €89, again with the cut-out arms.
Lorna is keen to stock unusual labels and offer brands that you won’t find anywhere else, such as Old Railway, which is exclusive to them. As well as clothes, you will find beautiful accessories: bags, scarves and unusual pieces of jewellery.
Ology is a treasure trove of individual pieces of furniture: lamps and mirrors and soft furnishings sourced from all over the world. This is Lisa’s domain and obviously her passion. She has lived and worked in Sri Lanka where she now manufactures some of her stock and runs another shop. The word eclectic is often over-used, but here it rings true. From the recycled military tent cushions to the light shades made from feathers and the trunk-style chest of drawers to the woven rugs, you will find it difficult to leave here without purchasing something. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices, considering the individuality and quality of the items.
