Have you heard about the Danish label Selected Femme/Homme? I have only recently discovered it since it arrived at the end of last year in my local shopping centre Swords Pavilions, but you can also find the label in stores like Arnotts or if you are so inclined you can shop online at www.selected.ie
Why am I in love with ‘Selected’? Well, there are several reasons:
1 STYLE
Firstly, it is all about the easy Scandinavian aesthetic. Cool, classic, timeless elegance is the hallmark of their style. Think sophisticated but not fussy. The clothes are easy to wear and not trend-driven, but will fit year after year into your wardrobe. My favourite pieces are their shirts. I bought the navy top (below) last November and have worn it to death and it is still perfect. There is lovely detail around the neck and right down the front area and it covers the bum. I’m wearing it with high-waisted jeggings (€60), also from Selected).
2 PRICE
The reasonable price point will amaze you and I know I did a double-take when I first looked at the tags, thinking that there had to be some mistake!
3 QUALITY
And this is the incredible news…there is no sacrifice in the quality of the fabric used and the cut and standard of finish is top notch. I have not featured any here, but their leather jackets are made from softest of leathers at less than half the price of other labels.
As I mentioned earlier, I love their shirts. Regular readers will know about my affinity for the dropped hem and ‘Selected’ has several styles from which to choose. There is a huge variety of colours in the comfortable, easy-to-wear loose-fit shirt (€50), some pictured below. If you are looking for a shirt to cover the posterior, then this is the label for you and while I don’t particularly enjoy shopping online, I would risk it for these shirts. You can also probably go for a smaller size than you would normally, as the fit is generous.
However, I could not resist a longer style, as in this beautiful crepe baby blue with the gorgeous buttoning detail at the collar (€70). I am wearing it, again with their suck-me-in, high-waisted jeggings, that you could practise yoga in they are so comfy. Of course, you could also tuck it into a longer skirt for a totally different look.
Their knitwear is also fabulous. I treated myself last November to this sweater (below) and practically lived in it…yes, it has a dipped hem!
I see that Irish website www.littlewoodsireland.ie also stocks some of their clothes and I noticed a particularly soft, luxurious sweater in snow white for €100.
But before Christmas, I also purchased a cardigan (below) which is getting a lot of wear in the changeable Spring weather we are having here. I noticed a lovely soft pink long cardigan in the store which would be perfect to keep warm in our Irish weather.
But ‘Selected’ has plenty more to offer. If you are in the market for an affordable pretty dress or jumpsuit, then have a look or if you wish to purchase an Easter gift of an item of clothing for the man in your life, then the men’s range in Selected Homme will give you plenty of choice with the same quality and also for a reasonable price. So, forget the Easter Eggs, go treat yourself or your loved one to something in ‘Selected’.
