You know how I like to share, but I am always very careful about what I recommend when I talk about the beauty products I use because firstly what works me might not be suitable for your skin. I am a coward when it comes to Botox or Fillers, but I am still keen to look as youthful as I can, without resorting to extreme measures. Here I am following a CACI treatment at Nu Essence Beauty Salon in Dublin, www.nuessence.ie, a treatment I highly recommended in an earlier post.
Now today’s top tip is for everyone. Young or old, male or female, you will benefit from purchasing some silk pillowcases. What? Yes, you heard me right SILK. Ah now that’s going a bit far, I hear you say. Aren’t they the preserve of multi-millionaires and movie stars? No, they are not and let me tell you why you need them in your lives!
WRINKLES
Have you ever woken up in the morning with a deep crease or crevice down your face? It is there because the cotton pillowcase you have used has furrowed and imprinted this horror. Have any of you noticed that the older we get the longer it takes for that crease to disappear?
That is because with ageing, the skin loses its elasticity and ability to bounce back. And these sleep lines eventually turn into PERMANENT WRINKLES!! Shock horror…yes, when we are sleeping and tossing and turning, we are creating wrinkles if we do not have the smoothness of silk beneath us. Cotton can pull and suck moisture from your skin…and let us not even mention polyester! But if you sleep on silk, you get the benefit of 18 amino acids which counter the effects of ageing and help retain moisture in your skin. I certainly notice the difference and feel that my night-time cream is absorbed by my skin and not the pillowcase.
HAIR
And if you wake up in the morning with frizzy or unruly hair, having hit the sack with it perfectly smooth, then here is another reason to get yourself some silk. Again, the natural properties of silk help reduce friction in your hair and my blow dry certainly lasts longer since I started using silk pillowcases.
DETAILS
It feels luxurious.
It is naturally hypoallergenic…so has a resistance to dust mites and mould etc. and the manufacturers claim it can help if you have asthma or suffer from allergies!
It keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. I can vouch for this.
If money is no object, you can indulge in Mulberry Silk costing upwards from about €80, but there are less expensive alternatives. I use a beautiful Luna pillowcase from Cara Pharmacies which you can buy online for €39 99. Check out www.carapharmacy.com. However, ‘Homestore and More’ have 2 for €25 (below) with one side silk and the reverse cotton.
CARE
I wash mine with a gentle detergent on a low cool cycle, air dry and then use a cool iron, but check before you purchase that you don’t have to hand wash. That would be a pain and I am not sure I would want to have them dry cleaned because of the chemicals used.
RESULTS
I have been sleeping on silk pillowcases for a few years now. And yes, I can see the effect it has on my skin and hair. If I am away on holidays and forget to bring one with me, I really notice the difference.
I am still searching for the perfect creams and serums but if you want something that will have a positive effect, go and purchase a silk pillowcase. You will thank me; I promise you And here’s another secret. I have purchased one for my darling GG. He reckons his craggy face is beyond help now but he’s willing to try!
You are welcome.
This post is not sponsored obviously, but I am happy to accept some silk pillowcases if anyone is so inclined to send me some!
I have one of these, I must dig it out. Thanks for the reminder x
