5-over-50 challenge ‘Amazing Lace’

I am going to confuse you all by posting on a Monday, but I am delighted to have been asked to join a collective of  ‘over 50 UK bloggers’ for a 5-over-50 style challenge and this month’s theme is ‘Amazing Lace’. I know I am now over 60, but I am still over 50…right? More about my fellow bloggers later.

I was lucky to already have a dress in my wardrobe, which fitted the bill perfectly. I wore it to a wedding in London in October last year and again this year to a wedding in Ireland in July. You might be interested to see how I achieved a totally different look for each occasion.  And we are not just talking accessories.

The dress is LK Bennett and they do this floaty mid-length style all the time. If you click on the link www.lkbennett.com it brings you straight to their site and there are some great offers. Alternatively, you can find the label in Arnotts, Dublin or in Dundrum Shopping Centre Dublin where there is a stand-alone shop.

The brand is a firm favourite of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge; in fact, she wore a version of the same dress. You can have a ‘goo’ below. Obviously, I have very good taste. I wrote about how Queen Elizabeth and I have jewellery from the same goldsmith before and now Kate and I are practically wearing the same dress. My connections to Royalty are becoming ridiculous!

Below you can see how I wore the dress to the wedding in London, but would you believe I do not have one usable photo from it (GG was only learning to be a blogger’s assistant at the time) so the stylist daughter kindly took a few shots last week.

The lace detail is at the top of the dress as you can see. I paired it with sandals from Clarks’ new collection and last year wore it with older, black, high Clarks shoes which stayed on my feet for 13 hours…a testament to their comfort. I accessorised with a blue bag and blue earrings…not seen here!

For this year’s wedding, the stylist daughter suggested changing the slip underneath (which came with the dress) from the black to a pinky nude. It was also a few inches above the knee, so yes, there was more leg on show. I accessorised with a pink bag and blue shoes also from Clarks. I could not find the bag …I need to be more organised, but the stylist daughter only gave me half an hour.

So how did my fellow bloggers interpret the challenge?

Well, Jacqui from Mummabstylish (whose challenge this is) looks the epitome of elegance here in a chic, black lace dress. Note how the slip stops just below the knee to accentuate the lace. And check out the beautiful strappy sandals and simple accessories. I will be heading over to her blog myself to find out where she purchased the dress.

Gail from Is This Mutton went all out gothic, with a femme fatale vibe in a black lace skirt and black jacket, teamed with a white lace shirt. And I just love the graveyard setting and the photography. Note the accessories of lace gloves and hair bow. Now this girl took the challenge seriously.

Sexy and striking, Laurie from Vanity and Me made a strong statement in black and white. Where did she get those gorgeous trousers?  What a beautiful lace top (love the nude vest underneath) and doesn’t she wear it well?

And in total contrast, looking sublimely serene, Anna from Annas Island Style  (the Scilly Isles)  went all out lace in a softer palette. The combination of peach and cream is perfection with the gold jewellery and I love her sandals.

Make sure you follow my friends to find out more about their interpretation of the theme and their styling and all the other details by clicking on the following links. Oh and they are all on instagram too.

Jacqui – mummabstylish

Gail – isthismutton

Laurie – vanityandme

Anna – annasislandstyle

Next month it is all about the hat so be ready for a ‘hatattack’!

Bye for now.

Love your look, Hilda! You do have much in common with Lizbet and Kate ❤ Coincidence? I think not! The stylist daughter, did a wonderful job prepping you and snapping your jazzy photos! Finally playing catch up with you Hilda – I’ve been without internet since Monday as I was away moving my daughter out of her flat to return home, hence no connection. Anyway, welcome to the group and wow, didn’t you make a lasting impression! The dress is really beautiful and I do wonder how you can better this particular royal connection?

I’m looking forward to our next challenge. I’ve got the hat, but not any idea of what to wear with it. Until then, have a great week!

    Anna x

Forgot to post this pic from a few months ago, tak Forgot to post this pic from a few months ago, taken when we could go further than 5k. Wearing all Zara except for old @carl_scarpa boots. How are you coping with the present lockdown? I am reading lots and watching telly and walking. I sympathise with those of you who are homeschooling and trying to work. Not easy. But we are nearly there. Stay strong.

New Year Resolutions are not for me. I just love New Year Resolutions are not for me.
I just love the life I live. Of course I am worried about the Pandemic. Who isn't?
But even though I cannot meet friends, eat out or do many of the 'normal' activities I used to do, I can still walk and enjoy the lovely place I live. Pop over to the blog to see my farewell to 2020.

Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Year's Eve for certain. We are sitting at home watching the telly. But welcoming in 2021 with open arms and hoping that in a few months we can return to a more normal life.

While 2020 was tough, it also made me appreciate (even more) the beautiful place where I live.

2020 also had its highlights: our third grandson arrived a few weeks ago!

Stay positive my friends. Stay safe and
 thank you for your support.

🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) h 🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) has Ionic Brushing Superpowers!

🪥Sounds impressive? It is!

🪥But do not ask me to explain it.Check out @ion.sei for all the science stuff. And learn about the innovative technology used in this German manufactured and Japanese inspired toothbrush.

🪥It has to do with a UV LED light, a titanium bar and negative ions. But it is rather complicated and I am not a science geek.

🪥What I know is that my teeth and gums feel cleaner and are cleaner. Because it actually prevents plaque from forming.

🪥Easy to use (there are 3 brushing modes) and gentle on gums, it turns off after 2 minutes. And delivers minimum 36,000 strokes in that time!!
