Go ahead, Break every Fashion Rule – There are no Rules

Some of my friends from The Midlife Revolution and I have got together and decided that we have had it with RULES… about what you CAN and you CANNOT wear when you reach a certain age.

Who made these so-called RULES anyway?
THE FASHION POLICE?

Who are you?

We will wear what we damn well like.

I dress quite conservatively, but I admire those who don’t. I love seeing older women rocking their leathers and ripped jeans. And I also admire those who wear beautiful elegant dresses and timeless pieces.

There have been so many ridiculous articles recently stating that women should not wear jeans after 40 or bikinis after a certain age, or short skirts and they certainly should not show off their cleavage after 50.

Ignore all this and wear what you want.

I like to try new trends in the safety of the dressing room and sometimes I embrace them with gusto. My favourite from recent years is the cold shoulder and I have purchased quite a few items.

Other trends never make it out of the changing room, simply because they do not suit me. But they look lovely on others of a similar age.

So, if you want to wear a short skirt and showcase your legs, that is your call. This is as short as I go now!

If you wish to wear a low-cut dress, it is your choice.

My over-the-knee boots, bought in Paula’s in Malahide, did raise a few eyebrows, but I don’t care.

If you want to wear a bikini, go ahead and do so. You can see that I am wearing one on the cruise I went on with GG and friends to celebrate my 60th two years ago. I have not worn one since, but if I do it will be my choice.  Notice that I did not walk around in the bikini, I always wore a long shirt or kimono, but I did sunbathe in it.

Hop over to my friends’ posts and see what rules they break, what trends they try.

Nina  Sharing a Journey is absolutely fabulous in her off-the-shoulder top.

Robin Hello Im 50ish  rocks her two-piece swimsuit.

Eugenia The Age of Grace always  so elegant, takes risks from time to time and tackles print-mixing.

Julie and Lori  Fashion Trends and Friends look amazing in their shorts.

Are you a risk taker?

I would love to hear in the comments below.

Thank you for reading. Enjoy your weekend.

The sad thing is that the fashion police is mostly women writers in daily newspapers who write disparaging comments about other women — and they’re usually over 45 themselves!

You look fantastic in your bikini Hilda and the cold shoulder top is definitely your signature look!

I know Gail, that is a good point. Maybe they are just trying to stir up some controversy. And thank you x

You look fantastic in all of your options. I’ve never been a rule follower in regards to how I dress but an item, or style has to look good on me. I think it’s ridiculous all the rules that are coming out for women 40 and up! Even more ridiculous is that there are women that feel you need to follow those rules.

Thanks Kim….we just ignore, but it makes for a good post. Glad to hear you are of a similar mind..

    Hilda,

You look amazing in all of your fashion choices! We’ll just keep on wearing what we like, look in and feel confident wearing! No one tells us how to dress!

Forgot to post this pic from a few months ago, tak Forgot to post this pic from a few months ago, taken when we could go further than 5k. Wearing all Zara except for old @carl_scarpa boots. How are you coping with the present lockdown? I am reading lots and watching telly and walking. I sympathise with those of you who are homeschooling and trying to work. Not easy. But we are nearly there. Stay strong.

New Year Resolutions are not for me. I just love New Year Resolutions are not for me.
I just love the life I live. Of course I am worried about the Pandemic. Who isn't?
But even though I cannot meet friends, eat out or do many of the 'normal' activities I used to do, I can still walk and enjoy the lovely place I live. Pop over to the blog to see my farewell to 2020.

Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Year's Eve for certain. We are sitting at home watching the telly. But welcoming in 2021 with open arms and hoping that in a few months we can return to a more normal life.

While 2020 was tough, it also made me appreciate (even more) the beautiful place where I live.

2020 also had its highlights: our third grandson arrived a few weeks ago!

Stay positive my friends. Stay safe and
 thank you for your support.

🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) h 🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) has Ionic Brushing Superpowers!

🪥Sounds impressive? It is!

🪥But do not ask me to explain it.Check out @ion.sei for all the science stuff. And learn about the innovative technology used in this German manufactured and Japanese inspired toothbrush.

🪥It has to do with a UV LED light, a titanium bar and negative ions. But it is rather complicated and I am not a science geek.

🪥What I know is that my teeth and gums feel cleaner and are cleaner. Because it actually prevents plaque from forming.

🪥Easy to use (there are 3 brushing modes) and gentle on gums, it turns off after 2 minutes. And delivers minimum 36,000 strokes in that time!!
