GG and I spent a night recently (gifted) at Castleknock Hotel in Porterstown, near Castleknock, Dublin.
WELCOME
A few days before our visit we received an email in which the procedures/guidelines in place for safety were explained and laid out.
From the moment we entered the large and airy foyer at Castleknock Hotel, we felt welcome. A masked young ‘Ambassador’ greeted us warmly and pointed us towards the reception on the left. There were separate entrances and exits, hand sanitisers a-plenty and floor markings to ensure safe distances were kept.
ROOM
Our room was perfect. Beautifully appointed, overlooking the golf course, it was very comfortable and impeccably clean. This is so important, particularly now. I always judge a hotel on how well I sleep. I often find hotel rooms impossibly hot, but this was just right and I slept like a log on an extremely comfortable bed, with lovely linen and pillows.
The bathroom had a separate bath and shower and luxurious Elemis products (also used in the spa).
Another plus were the super-fluffy high quality towels and robes. Too often I am disappointed with the poor quality linen and towels. Not so here!
AMENITIES
Graham and I did not have enough time to make use of the many amenities at the hotel. There is a gym, a swimming pool and a spa. I did peep into the spa to see if they had a slot for a facial, but they were full up. Booking in advance is certainly the recommendation.
We had played 18 holes the previous day at Castleknock Golf Course adjoining the hotel, so that was enough exercise for us.
RESTAURANT
The restaurant is made for spacious dining. Tables are really well spaced out and we felt very safe. A nice touch is the sanitiser on every table. It is also reassuring to see the staff wear their masks properly; unfortunately, I have seen them misused in other establishments. Dinner that evening was on par with any of the top restaurants I have visited and better than some.
From start to finish everything was delicious. Below are a few pics to whet your appetite. I loved my goat’s cheese starter and my main course of hake was mouthwatering. Graham’s lamb was tender and cooked just the way he likes it!
And desserts did not disappoint either.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
We only live twenty minutes away, but we felt re-energised after our one night there. Too often we feel that we have to travel far when we go away for a break. I would highly recommend this hotel for those of you who even live in Dublin. You can play golf in the club next door, or just book yourself into the spa.
The Phoenix Park is a short drive (a few minutes) and as well as housing Dublin Zoo, there are 1,750 acres to explore.
So click on the link here…I know that the Hotel has amazing offers at the moment that are worth checking out.
Yes, Castleknock Hotel is perfect for these Covid Times or any time.
One of these days when we travel we have 2 places on the list. Italy and the UK. I enjoyed hearing about hour stay, what a lovely hotel. I’m sure it was a much needed retreat due to Covid. Btw, your skin looks great!
