Graham and I had a very pleasant visit to Baltinglass last month. Why go to Baltinglass you may well ask? What has Baltinglass to offer?
Well, Jean Kelly Massage and Holistic Therapist offered Graham and me some complimentary treatments. Jean has joined other members of her family in offering holistic treatments.
Her father and her brother Jimmy are already well-known spinologists in Baltinglass and Jimmy’s partner Roisin Ellis is a neuromuscular therapist.
So it is pretty much a ONE-STOP SHOP for your body.
Below you can see the building, situated in Weaver’s Square. And head over to my instagram to see where I got my kimono/coat. Hint: (located in Malahide, I have found some fab pieces there recently)
Below is Jean’s pleasant treatment room.
GRAHAM REPORTS ON HIS TREATMENT – EAR-CANDLING
For anyone who thinks that having a lit candle placed in your ear is frightening, I can assure you it is not!
The candle is lit and placed in the ear. As the candle burns, it creates a gentle suction action and the movement of the flame creates a gentle vibration of air within the ear canal. This then creates a massage-like effect on the eardrum. As the candle burns, I heard a crackling sound and felt a gentle warming of the ear.
I then had a very pleasant and relaxing lymphatic drainage neck and facial massage to encourage detoxification.
Ear-candling can help in the treatment of ear-ache, headache, tinnitus, glue ear and sinusitis.
HILDA – BACK MASSAGE
Jean’s approach is holistic and gentle. I know many people who dislike massage (they find it too painful) but who would love this. I love all types of massage. If I was rich, I would have my own personal masseuse and have a different type daily.
I particularly liked how Jean focused on the muscles at the base of the skull. Many of us hold our tension here and pressure and stretching this area helps release it.
I would imagine that headache and migraine sufferers would love it.
HILDA – ORGANIC FACIAL
Centella is a French Skincare brand, certified natural and organic.
The products used in this facial are rich in stem cells which have been extracted from the Centelle Asiatica plant. Stem cells help to repair tissues when dead cells stop working and they help to regenerate the skin and to restore it to a more youthful state. It is also rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which help in the regeneration of the skin cells.
I loved the jade stone sticks and roller (below) used to improve micro-circulation and also to help plump up the skin.
My favourite part was the relaxing pressure point massage on the scalp. In other words, your hair gets a workout too. So do not waste your time washing your hair before a visit. Below you can see my glowing face. Jean also offers reflexology, which I have had before and loved.
BALTINGLASS
I had never been to the town before so we had a wander around.
The town’s outstanding feature is the former Cistercian Abbey (above) founded in 1148 and today a National Monument. It is located next door to the local Church of Ireland church.
Below you can see the pretty centre of the town. For coffee lovers, there are several cafes scattered around.
This was my first visit to Baltinglass. Probably not my last.
