Tomorrow, the 1st of February 2022, is the beginning of the Chinese New Year and will usher in the Year of the Tiger. So, Emma chose ‘The Eye of the Tiger’ as her theme for our ‘Style Not Age’ group.
THE YEAR OF THE TIGER
The Year of the Tiger is the third of 12 astrology signs in the Chinese Zodiac. The Lunar New Year marks the transition from one sign into another, which in this case is Ox into Tiger.
The Year of the Tiger occurs every 12 years, so a child born for the rest of this year up until the 21st of January 2023 will be ruled by the powerful tiger.
Much like their namesakes, Tigers are independent, fearless, loyal and have high self-esteem. They are strong in the face of adversity and never back down from a challenge, they’re persistent and determined.
Their free nature and strong sense of justice is their biggest strength and weakness, as this can lead to them being rebellious and sometimes too self-confident.
MY OUTFIT FOR THE EYE OF THE TIGER
Now, if you follow me, you know I love animal print, but I do not have one single item in my wardrobe that is tiger print. Luckily, I was walking past one of my favourite boutiques in Malahide – Marc Cain – and spied a fabulous tiger print bag. Perfect for the theme this month. I borrowed it for the purpose of this post. But the good news is that it is in the sale and reduced from €249 to €99. And it is a fabulous statement bag. I am very tempted to buy it myself, but if I come home with another bag there will be WAR.
I teamed it with my Spanx suit. I thought I would give you a peek at the back of the jacket first. You have seen this suit featured before on several occasions.
I teamed it with an old Zara shirt. And my favourite Quay sunglasses from Shaw’s Department Stores.
‘STYLE NOT AGE’ FRIENDS
Let us first look at Emma who chose the theme. Ok, she wins hands down! Her outfit roars Tiger. I love her Zara trousers. She even has a tiger necklace. You need to pop over to her page at Stylesplash to learn more.
Gail went a different direction. Like me she has no tiger print in her wardrobe and they are not colours she wears. But she does have a stunning tiger-eye necklace which she shared with us. If you check out Gail’s page – www.isthismutton.com – you can learn some really interesting facts about the Tiger’s Eye Crystal and why we should wear one.
Jacqui has donned a statement tiger print shirt and looks ready to pounce. Teamed with black trousers and tan boots, you can find Jacqui on Mummabstylish.
Anna has teamed her tiger tee with a most stunning jacket that is perfect colouring for the theme of the eye of the tiger. I also love the setting she chose to showcase her outfit. And, of course, you can find out what Anna has been doing over on Annasislandstyle.
So here we are at the end of January. It has not been a bad month in Ireland. The weather has been bright and sunny. Most of the Covid restrictions have been lifted too and now we can look forward to Spring. However, I will not be putting away my winter woollies yet. And I will be giving nightclubs a miss too!
Thanks for reading, as always.

That’s a fabulous bag, I would be tempted to buy it too. There’s a diplomatic incident in our house every time something new arrives – I try to sneak my purchases in under the radar!

Your bag is a clever play on the theme! Even someone print and orange averse, like me, could carry that lovely bag! I know what you mean about having too many bags though….!
Thanks Gail…..lucky to see it. I was floundered otherwise.
Oh goodness, how lovely to be able to pop into your local boutique like that! The handbag is fab and a great size too. I’m paring down my handbag collection currently, but this one would definitely make the cut x
It is pretty fab…xx
Your hair looks the perfect shade to compliment your outfit Hilda, love that bag too. Great challenge, looking forward to seeing what the next months bring. Jacqui x
