Happy New Year, my friends. I am a little late coming to the party, but I decided to take a break from the blog and social media. Life has been busy. I know that we are a little worried by what 2023 may bring. Certainly, the last three years have been challenging.
However, we need to look forward with hope and focus on what brings us joy. We have a wonderful group of friends who enrich our lives and I value each and every one. We are blessed that our grandchildren live nearby and we get to spend lots of time with them all. Below you can see GG and Zen at Malahide Castle earlier this week. Look at that blue sky.
While I am not one for making New Year Resolutions, I am determined to return to a healthier lifestyle. I have been lax in that area and have indulged a little too much over the festive season, which in truth started in early December.
A shoulder injury prevented me from practising yoga for about six months. Now that it is much better, I am getting back to it. Listen, I am talking 15 to 20 minutes daily, no big deal. I just need to make it a priority. No more excuses! Below you can see how good I was during lockdown.
Plus, I need to use weights. I am appalled by how much muscle tone I have lost in the last few years. Since turning 60 and having to give up tennis everything has gone south. Hopefully, it is not too late to stop the rot.
If any of you have started weights in your 60s, let me know if it has made a difference. It has been nearly 20 years since I was in a gym! A friend and I were discussing the fact that we are wearing more elasticated trousers and while they may be comfy, they allow us to expand without noticing! Do you agree? Having said that I love my culottes (below) which I bought in Paula’s Malahide before Christmas. You will be seeing a lot of them. I shopped my wardrobe for the rest of the outfit.
I will be back regularly with my usual mix of health, fashion, skincare, make-up and travel.
Last year, we had some lovely breaks at home and trips away. I can recommend The Hardiman in Galway, Powerscourt in Wicklow and Killarney Royal in Kerry. And we had two wonderful trips with Travel Department, the first to Porto and then on a magical river Cruise on the Danube in July to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. In November, we spent a few days in beautiful Cadiz and then back to Portugal with friends. I still have to do a post on it.
Finally, I want to thank you all for your continued support of my blog. And if you know others who might like it, please share. And you can follow me on FB and Instagram at overthehilda, if you are on those platforms. Otherwise see you here.
Stay well.
Hilda x
I hear you about muscle tone and the expanding pants. For most of my adult life, a pair of blue jeans I wore in my 20s was my scale. If I couldn’t zip them up, I watched my diet and exercised more until I could. But all of that changed in my late 60s. Weight and even body parts seem to have shifted and my blue jean scale no longer worked. Neither do wide-leg pants! Happy New Year, Hilda. xoxox, Brenda
Well you still look amazing. I am Looking forward to that book. I will do a follow up post if I get off my lazy butt and do weights.
Hi Hilda:
I am 69 and lift weights. I do in 4 sets of 17. My pants are so loose and I feel good that I am building muscle mass after a diagnosis of osteoporosis. I do 2 five pound dumbbells.
Wow that is wonderful. Thanks for the encouragement and well done to you.
Happy New Year! I’m more than happy to leave 2022 behind and a hello to 2023.
Diane I hope 2023 is good to you x
Great that you are back Hilda !
I will follow with interest any updates on using weights as we all loose muscle so it is definitely in my to do list this year !
