Jacqui chose our ‘Style Not Age’ theme of ‘Dreamy Dresses’ for June! Perfect, I thought, I will have had plenty of opportunity to wear my summer dresses and take lots of photos.
But, in reality, summer (and therefore dreamy dresses) has been a bit of a non-event until this weekend. While in Derry/Londonderry last week, we had one lovely summer day and I got a chance to wear this Whistles dress. Now, I have to be honest; I nearly gave it away to a friend. It is the kind of dress that needs two things: a good strapless bra and a tan. I have neither.
So what did I do? I pushed the straps down into the sleeves. It worked, well kind of. I could have done with a bit more lift. So that was the bra sorted!
HE SHI TAN
The tan, I hear you ask. Well, I had been sent a fake tan (pr drop) about six weeks ago and it is the first home fake tan that I deem a success. Yes the he shi tan worked perfectly on me. I have tried many and I have never been completely satisfied.
- It was easy to apply because it has a tint and it is more like a body lotion
- It does not have a particularly strong fragrance.
- It dries quickly
- It leaves no marks on the sheets
- It did not streak
- It wore off evenly
WHISTLES DREAMY DRESSES
So back to the dress. My tan was good, my white skin had a sun-kissed glow. I was able to wear the dress! Success. The shoes are old Clarkes shoes. And very comfy.

So can you believe that June is nearly over and that we have passed the Summer Solstice. Hopefully we have some more sunny summer days ahead and we can wear those dreamy dresses again.

I wear my dresses to the grocery stores as well as church. Lately for church though, I am on a skirt kick: I have given most of my dresses a rotation, now it is time for the skirts. Hard to justify buying something new even second hand, if I haven’t worn some of my clothes.
This dress is a beautiful color and perfect for summer day with the bare shoulders and flowy skirt. Pretty!
