Stealing someone else’s style is actually far more difficult than it sounds or looks. I chose this theme for this month’s ‘Style Not Age’ challenge because I thought it would be easy.
Having dithered about whose style I was going to copy, I eventually settled on Julia Roberts’ ‘Race Look’ in the movie ‘Pretty Woman’. You see for years my GG was likened to Richard Gere (below) and I also loved the scene in the movie where Julia’s character tells the snooty sales girl that she made a big mistake and spends her money in another shop. Of course it is a totally unrealistic portrayal of prostitution and I believe the original screenplay (obviously changed) was not a romantic comedy, but a more gritty and hard-hitting film with a bad ending for Vivian.
Wallaroo Hats
Anyway, I had been gifted a fabulous hat from Wallaroo UK which was inspired by the hat in the film and aptly called Julia. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have already seen this hat. Wallaroo hats are unusual in that they offer UPF50 protection (Skin Cancer Foundation-approved too). They are perfect for any size head because they are adjustable and many of them including my Julia are packable. And, of course, there are many attractive styles available in a variety of colours. Definitely worth checking out their site. Below you get a better picture of the hat.
So, I had the hat and I thought it would be easy enough to get a spotty dress like the one Julia Roberts wore in the film. But, of course, I left it too late and could not find one in the end.
However, I remembered seeing my friend Hilary in a similar dress and luckily was able to borrow from her. Her dress was bought a few months ago in Mango.
‘Style Not Age’ response
So how did my friends from ‘Style Not Age’ get on?
Well, Anna from Anna’s Island Style chose to steal the style of the wonderful Suzi Grant from Alternative Ageing. Suzi’s style here is colourful and zany and I think Anna nailed it and the pose.
Emma of Style Splash chose to take her inspiration from the TV series ‘Killing Eve’.
Emma’s outfit was inspired by Villanelle from the second series, where she’s wearing a pink blouse and cerise skirt. You will have to head to her post to read more about it.
And guess whose style Jacqui (www.mummabstylish.com) chose to steal? Yes, Julia Roberts in ‘Pretty Woman’ too! It is not the first time that we have been thinking along the same lines. I am dying to read her post now; it will be interesting to read what she has written.
We have so much fun with our monthly collaborations, even though it is nearly always a mad rush to get it done in time. Check out last month’s collaboration HERE and do pop over to read my friends’ posts. And you can follow us on INSTAGRAM too.
Happy Monday.

Haha, this is great! How fun that Jacqui and you choose Juia in the same colors! Fabulous!

Fabulous read Hilda, love to hear a little of the back story too. It seems my link isn’t working though not sure what has happened there. Catch up soon Hilda. x Jacqui Mummabstylish
I read yours Jacqui. Will look again.
Isn’t that cool that you and Jacqui were thinking alike! I did enjoy that movie! I love the hat, its a great style on you. I remember seeing your ( friends) pretty dress on Mango, as I have been doing most of my shopping there lately. THose sandals are gorgeous, may I ask where they are from? Id love a pair like that.
So fun to see what other steals there were. Anna did a great job, the sherbet ice cream flavored colors and print are very similar. Like the scarf in the hair too! I have only heard Killin Eve, but never saw it, but Emma looks great in pink as well, a retro vibe to it. I think tv/movies offer much inspiration.
Have a great day!

Jess the sandals are old and are CARVELA but I reckon there are others like it out there. I love the collaboration with the girls. It means we have to put our thinking caps on every month. xx
It was really fun to read about this fashion collaboration. I’m not much of a hat person, but I really like the “Julia”, since it has the sun protection and it’s packable. It looks really good on you too. It’s funny I was just at the mall today, here in Tbilisi, and saw the polka dot dress you mentioned at Mango. Enjoyed the post. I’ll be back to visit again.
Christina thank you so much for commenting. There are no more left in Mango here…
Will check your site too.
Funny how both you and Jacqui were thinking the same! The iconic polka dot dress is never going to date is it? You look amazing Hilda xx
I want one now Laurie.
Such an elegant dress, and I love your hat! I’ll have to check out the Wallaroo website!
