One of my regular readers, a lovely lady called Demi who owns a cleaning  company with her husband in London, guest blogs today.  A mother of two, Demi likes to write in the little spare time that she has and share tips related to cleaning and organising. I, for one, should follow her advice on looking after my make-up tools. I am definitely a little lazy in that arena. Thanks Demi.

Great ways to clean and disinfect your make-up tools

Every make-up lover knows the importance of the make-up tools. All the brushes, sponges, pencil sharpeners and other beauty gadgets can improve the application and the final result of your make-up routine. Buying the right kind of make-up tools can be a pretty expensive investment and this is why it is important to do your best and extend their lifespan. Keeping your beauty supplies clean is even more essential for your healthy and beautiful skin.

I know that you feel annoyed when you think of cleaning your make-up gadgets but it will make a world of difference if you clean and disinfect your beauty tools more regularly. Don’t worry, I am going to share a few great ways to clean your make-up tools and, in most cases, the cleaning won’t take you more than a couple of minutes.

Synthetic brushes

Synthetic brushes are great for liquid make-up and they make the application more flawless and easy. This, however, means that they get dirty and infected with different bacteria two times faster than other make-up tools since germs are more easily spread through liquids.

A great way to clean your synthetic brushes without damaging them is to use a baby shampoo. Use one drop of the shampoo and swirl the brush in the palm of your hand. Rinse with a warm water. Since liquid make-up is hard to be broken down, you might need to repeat the steps a few times. After you are done, let the brushes air-dry on a towel.

Make-up sponge or cloth

Under no circumstances should you neglect the condition of your make-up sponge. If you have an acne-prone skin, washing your beauty tool after every use may be a good idea. For this, you don’t need professional help to clean it. You will be amazed how easy it is to clean your sponges. All you need to do is wet the sponge with warm water and use one drop of liquid soap. Use your fingers to massage the soap into the sponge and rinse with water. Repeat the steps until the water that you squeeze out of the sponge is clear. Let the sponge air-dry before you use it again.

Tweezers and eyelash curler

Don’t forget to disinfect your tweezers and eyelash curler. After all, they get way too close to your eyes and if they are covered in germs, this can cause problems for your eyes. The easiest way to clean and disinfect these tools is to use a little cotton swab and dampen it with a rubbing alcohol. Wipe the tweezers and the eyelash curler before and after every use.

Pencil sharpeners

Pencil sharpeners are one of the worst make-up tools to get dirty. No matter how often you dump all the shavings, there is always a residue from all the eye and lip pencils you have sharpened. This tool is a true nest of germs if you don’t disinfect it properly. All you need to do to clean your sharpener is to grab a q-tip and dampen it with a rubbing alcohol. Use the q-tip to clean all the left-overs of make-up and make sure that the plastic parts, as well as the blade, are properly cleaned.

Use these simple ways to clean and properly disinfect your make-up tools and you can always be sure that you are protected from any nasty bacteria. This will seriously help your skin to feel healthy and look smooth and beautiful.

Another advantage of cleaning regularly your beauty gadgets is that they will repay you with many years of great application. This way, buying expensive brushes and other supplies will be a smart investment and you can enjoy them for a long time.
