I have to admit that I had never been into Harvey Nichols or Harvey Nicks until the stylist daughter sent me there on the ‘search for the dress’.
WHY had I not ventured into the shop before?
Because, I thought it was too EXPENSIVE!
I was pleasantly surprised. Ok, I had been looking at some dresses and jumpsuits that were around the €1,000 mark in other shops, so anything less seemed positively BARGAINS! If you missed that post you can have a look HERE
And no, I hadn’t looked at the prices before I tried them on. I am always swayed by prices, so I might not have allowed myself to like them.
Anyway, back to Harvey Nichols. I met Deirdre, one of the two stylists in the Style Concierge, (the other is Elaine) who, when she heard my dilemma brought me some amazing dresses to try on.
Above is a Giorgio Armani pale blue, silk dress (€830)
It felt beautiful on, however, I don’t think the colour is good on me and the style is probably the least flattering and makes me look hippy not ‘hip’! It would suit someone taller and with a sallow complexion, probably.
Giorgio Armani…coral pink, (€715)
I love the colour, the detail on the waist and it was very comfortable to wear.
Keepsake black floral dress (€200)
Reasonably priced, flattering shape, worried a little about the thin strap on one side, but it is hidden by my hair. Not sure if it is elegant enough though.
Another Keepsake maxi dress (€250). Loved this print, but I think it is a bit too casual and booby, however, a great buy for Irish summers! I love maxis and this has a shorter skirt underneath and two slits, so there is a hint of leg.
I was looked after in the personal styling suite. It is advisable to book this in advance, but it is the only way to shop. Deirdre has a great eye and everything she gave me to try on fitted me perfectly.
She also reminded me that Harvey Nichols offers a unique service.
You can browse the website HERE and request the items you want to be sent to your nearest shop. In my case that is obviously Dundrum and in about a week you can return to try them on.
There is no obligation to buy, if they do not suit, they are just returned to the original store. I noticed some new items have been added to the website, since I looked last, so I might be back again to Harvey Nichols. The search continues.
I absolutely LOVE the coral Armani on you! Wow!
Coral is one of my colours definitely…but you know when you have a n idea in your mind. I actually have been out shopping since and have bought….but of course I won’t be showing you until the big day…
I preferred your dreses from yout 1st day shopping. The very first coral lace one was the best so far I think. Are you heading out again?
Thanks Marita…yes have been out again since Harvey Nicks….might be nearly there…
It’s so fun to see this process for you. I love that you don’t look at the prices until after you try them on….we should all do that!!
XOXO

Well I reckon if I really loved it I would pay…but still not found the one!!
I like the Armani coral pink dress and the Keepsake maxi dress, though the latter is best for a more informal wedding. Loving your search and can’t wait to see any other finds. BTW, I was in John Lewis recently and they have a selection of Marc Cain outfits, including the dress you showed us. I was very tempted!
Ah Gail you should purchase..they have 30% off now…thanks for all the advice…well you have the experience!!
My fave is the Coral Armani.. I”ve been imagining a Mother-of-the Bride look in my fantasies because my daughter could become engaged in the near future. I want a super-fitted tux with a bustier because I am A. clumsy and pants would be better for me and B. I’ll be on the dance floor for hours!!!
All the dresses are beautiful on you–but that Coral…….
Thank you so much Cathe..would love you to post that tuxe pic when it happens..x
I love the coral pink dress, the colour is great on you. The maxi dress is really lovely too.

I am tempted to purchase the maxi…but not for the wedding.
The coral dress is fabulous on you but what a price!
I had fun, but none so far have been appropriate. I do love the maxi for a less formal occasion though…
Hilda,
Look no further than the Armani: it’s you. Stylish. Elegant. Assured
So sweet Cliff xx
