Sleeping like a Baby on a Leesa Mattress

Sleeping like a Baby on a Leesa Mattress

In collaboration with Leesa Mattresses.

I have written before about how to ensure you get a good night’s sleep, but if you have not got a comfortable mattress, then nothing else matters.

GG and I like to cuddle in bed and unless it is very hot, like this past summer, we tend to sleep close, rather than languish on either side. Unfortunately, on several occasions in the past year, circumstances have necessitated that one of us sleeps in the other room.

No, these occasions were not due to arguments – we never go to sleep on an argument (well, Graham sometimes falls asleep, but I keep waking him until he apologises!) – but were health related. Firstly, Graham had a hip replacement last March and had to set up camp in the spare room for six weeks.

Then in August, following a pacemaker fitting, he was sent back there for another week’s recuperation.

Why did I not move? The spare room mattress is crap. I had spent one night in there and my back was bad for days afterwards. So, Graham always draws the short straw. Well, I reckoned he wasn’t going to sleep much anyway, so it would make no difference.

Then following our holiday in India, I got a horrible sinusitis infection and he could not sleep, so in he went again.

But this time was different. Before we went to India we had taken delivery of a brand new, gifted Leesa mattress. When the company approached me to see if I would like to try out a mattress, it was a no-brainer.

First of all, I was fascinated to see how a mattress could be delivered in a box. But it was.

Secondly, how could this mattress expand into something comfortable as promised.

It did.

Graham spent a week on his own testing the new mattress and, thanks to his Fit Bit, told me jubilantly every morning how well he had slept. “3 hours deep sleep and 5 hours light sleep!” was the common daily refrain.

Meanwhile, I coughed and spluttered alone. And he would not change places or beds! He can be a little selfish sometimes!

He has had some discomfort lying on his new hip since the operation and has avoided doing so, choosing the right side or his back instead, but the new mattress is a game changer. He can’t quite believe it.

So, what’s a wife to do but join him. Yes, it is as comfortable as he claims. We both slept well, cuddled up in the double bed rather than our queen-size one. We always start in that position and gradually move apart. I was not even aware of Graham getting out of bed in the morning. A week later, we are still sleeping in the spare room!

Now ‘Houston’ we have a problem. He finds the mattress more comfortable than ours as he feels there is less pressure on his hip! And I have to admit that I agree with him.

THE SCIENCE

The Leesa mattress is unique in that it has three high quality foam layers that adjust to the body to offer optimum support and comfort for ALL body shapes, all firmness preferences and ALL sleeping styles.

This is cleverly called a UNIVERSAL ADAPTIVE Feel. So, whether you are a back sleeper, stomach sleeper or side sleeper like me, this mattress will suit you.

The top layer has a cooling Avena foam which is 5cm deep and allows for airflow, so you do not overheat (wonderful for menopausal women or men!)

In the middle, there is a 5cm memory foam which gives support and relieves pressure on joints. This explains Graham being able to lie on his new hip without any discomfort at all.

Then under all this is a 15cm base foam layer which adds support for people of all sizes, without feeling too stiff or firm.

This is finished with their signature soft and cosy four-stripe cover.

I don’t know what makes this different from other mattresses, but whatever it is, it works.

UNBOXING

This is a simple enough procedure and we had fun with it. Check out my Instagram stories..it will be on my highlights too  and on my FB to see how it was done. You will see that I directed proceedings and GG did as he was told!

  • Carry your Leesa box to wherever you intend to use it and unbox it on its side.
  • Position your rolled up Leesa it in its plastic wrapping on any solid or slotted base.
  • Remove the outer plastic.
  • Unroll and unfold the mattress and remove the inner plastic carefully.
  • And just watch as your mattress expands and takes its shape…just like magic.

The Leesa mattress, while originally founded in the US, is set for world domination and in the last few months was launched here in Ireland. It can only be purchased online but with a 100-day risk-free trial period, it certainly beats a few minutes of testing by bouncing around on a mattress in a showroom.  And I have always found that a little bit embarrassing! How about you?

It comes in all the usual sizes and there is bound to be a size to suit you.

REASONS TO BUY

1 The mattress is incredibly comfortable and supportive and, let’s face it, that is the most important reason.

2 It is delivered to your door in a box. So it is easy to get upstairs. I am sure you have struggled at one time or another getting mattresses up the stairs. Not a problem with the LEESA mattress.

3 The mattress is keenly priced.

4 As I mentioned earlier, the company offers a 100-night risk-free trial period, because they believe that sleeping on a mattress in the comfort of your own home is the only way to truly know if it’s right for you. If the mattress isn’t working out for you at any point in the first 100 nights of receiving the mattress, all you have to do is get in touch with them and they will arrange collection and donate your mattress to one of their charitable causes. How brilliant is that?

5 This is a company with a conscience that believes in giving back and Leesa unbelievably donates ONE mattress for every TEN sold to charitable causes. That’s 30,000 mattresses worldwide to people in need.

DISCOUNT FOR YOU

If you are in the market for a new mattress, or if your mattress is causing you pain and discomfort, it is time to invest in a new one.

And the good news is that LEESA has offered my followers a discount of €100. All you have to do is use the code OVERTHEHILDA at the checkout.

What have you to lose? A bad night’s sleep or a sore back.

This post was created in collaboration with Leesa, who provided a Leesa Mattress for review, but all views and opinions expressed are (as always) my own.

Anyway back to the outfit. I had to borrow a crochet top and bag from my friend @marie.sweeney4. And they look amazing with my suit bought from @studio124dublin and hat @wallaroohatsuk (old)
