‘Style Not Age’ go Back in Fashion

We go back in fashion this month. Let me explain a little more. Sustainable fashion is very much in vogue at present and we are all tying to buy less and buy with longevity in mind.

Our recent challenges reflect this. A few months ago, Anna challenged us to scour second-hand/charity shops and mix our purchases with items in our wardrobes.

This month, I set the challenge of wearing an item of clothing that we have had for at least ten years. A search through our attic gave me the idea. I have kept several pairs of boots, jackets, suits and dresses for years in a few plastic boxes up there. Unfortunately, most of them are a little tight on me now and I passed these on to the stylist daughter who revamped them for herself.

But I did find two velvet jackets (I featured one on Insta a few weeks ago) and some boots which I felt could be given another whirl.

Velvet jacket

The green jacket and brown boots are from the last century….yes about 25 years old. The jacket is still perfect and the boots are pretty good too. The jacket has the label Luma Italy on it and as for the boots your guess is as good as mine. But the suede has lasted well and they have a leather interior.

Searching my attic

There is a lot of velvet about this year and I love the colour of the jacket. Coloured green glass stones decorate the lapels. Paired with one of my favourite skirts, I feel it is a perfect look for the holiday season. My cashmere mix top is from Mango this season and the bag, which I love, was a present three years ago from Zara.

The skirt is from F&F last year and below you can see the detail on the suede boots, which are actually very comfortable still!

Suede boots found in attic

Let us see what my fellow ‘Style Not Age’ sisters found in their attics.

Emma bought this waistcoat second-hand from a dress agency when she was 18. My goodness, it is a perfect match for her boots. I love the entire look. Find out more by heading over to Style Splash.

Jacqui looks every inch an intrepid woman of mystery in her trench coat from 1987. If you want to know exactly where she has been hiding out, or who she is stalking, check out mummabstylish.

And Anna is cosy in her leopard coat against that fabulous stone backdrop. And you can find out more, of course, on annasislandstyle. I am keen to see more of that yellow/mustard dress underneath.

So that is another challenge finished and we will be back again at the end of December, after Christmas and just before the New Year.

Hilda, this outfit is so amazing! I am in love with your green velvet jacket! The second green velvet jacket I saw this morning and now I really need one in my life. And these boots are fabulous, too. I love the green and deep orange paired with the leopard print. That bag is so cool, too. Such a brilliant combination from head to toe! And I love that theme was something at least a decade old!

I love your whole outfit! I have a similar skirt that I got from H&M last year. Yours looks especially nice paired with the beautiful green jacket. It’s nice that you could pull out some clothing from your attic that is still wearable and in such good condition. Thanks for sharing Hilda. I always enjoy your posts.

Golly Hilda, that last response rings a bell with me – I too need to lose 10lbs! I fancy this may be impossible before Christmas though… Thanks for this great challenge. It’s funny how I always have a sense of dread when the new theme comes up and yet by the end I’m always pleased to have been pushed out of my comfort zone.
I love everything piece of his outfit of yours, so do feel free to pass some/all of it on to me when you tire of it x

I agree ..always enjoy the challenge and I don’t think I will ever get back to a size 10 unfortunately. But I would be happy to lose even 5 lbs!!

Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Happy New Year from Graham and me. A different New Year's Eve for certain. We are sitting at home watching the telly. But welcoming in 2021 with open arms and hoping that in a few months we can return to a more normal life.

While 2020 was tough, it also made me appreciate (even more) the beautiful place where I live.

2020 also had its highlights: our third grandson arrived a few weeks ago!

Stay positive my friends. Stay safe and
 thank you for your support.

🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) h 🪥 My new stylish electric toothbrush (gifted) has Ionic Brushing Superpowers!

🪥Sounds impressive? It is!

🪥But do not ask me to explain it.Check out @ion.sei for all the science stuff. And learn about the innovative technology used in this German manufactured and Japanese inspired toothbrush.

🪥It has to do with a UV LED light, a titanium bar and negative ions. But it is rather complicated and I am not a science geek.

🪥What I know is that my teeth and gums feel cleaner and are cleaner. Because it actually prevents plaque from forming.

🪥Easy to use (there are 3 brushing modes) and gentle on gums, it turns off after 2 minutes. And delivers minimum 36,000 strokes in that time!!
