Cosy Coats with ‘Style Not Age’

Well, the days are darker and temperatures have fallen, so it is time to get our cosy coats out. When socialising changed with the start of Covid, my friends and I met for coffee outside. We have continued to do that, so a warm puffa/padded coat is a necessity.

Coats are my one weakness! Do you remember the TV series ‘Larkrise to Candleford’ ?  The postmiststess Miss Lane played by Julia Sawahla used the phrase ‘XXX is my one weakness’ frequently. Of course there was a different weakness every episode. It was the sweetest series.

Anyway. I digress.  I already have more (coats) than I could possibly need, but I cannot resist buying more.  So, as it was my turn to choose the prompt this month, cosy coats seemed a good idea. Last month, we had a pink theme.

This beauty (Michael Kors) is a TK Maxx find. I always find bargains there. Plus, it comes in one of my favourite colours too.  It will be perfect for any outdoor coffees, lunches and walks.  The  faux fur hood is a bonus. Would you believe that the boots are from Primark/Penneys? I am wearing my Spanx leggings which I find are both flattering and comfortable.

I wore it when we were with my parents in the country a week ago. It was a little warm for the day that was in it, but that did not stop me. We went to lunch in a sweet little cafe in Loughmore, Co Tipperary. Even though it was about twenty minutes from my parents’ house, I had never been before.

The Cottage

The castle is just across the road from ‘The Cottage’ cafe

And down the road is a mill. Isn’t it a lovely village?

So to my friends.

MUMMABSTYLISH

Jacqui is wearing a new padded coat from Marks and Spencer.  I love the longer length and fashionable press stud fastenings. Practical and stylish in one, this coat will take her out and about and can be dressed up as she has done with heeled long boots. Or it could be equally paired with runners for a walk on a blustery day. Paired with an animal print scarf and fab tote, Jacqui looks cosy and elegant.

Pop over to her post to find out more.

THE STYLE SPLASH

The Style Splash

Emma looks very autumnal in her orange coat. If you have been following Emma you won’t be surprised that she found it on eBAY.  She had seen one just like it in a charity shop but it wasn’t her size, then saw this one pop up for £10 so  snapped it up. Look at the contrasting leopard print collar. Layered over a leopard print top from SilkFred and some velvet trousers from Very, she looks cosy indeed. And what about that gorgeous velvet turban with pearl embellishments. Isn’t it gorgeous? Check out her post here.

IS THIS MUTTON

Gail looks as if she stepped off a film set in her beautiful outfit.  That luxurious, velvet military-style jacket is currently in the shops. I am in love with it and look forward to seeing Gail style it in many different ways.  And so are the lace-up brogue boots. But you need to head over to Gail’s post to find where she got that jacket. I am looking forward to a closer look at it myself.

ANNA’S ISLAND STYLE

Anna has a bright blue sky as a backdrop to her photo. So I doubt it is too cold. Anyway, she looks super stylish in a second-hand coat. The brand is Kew 159. How does she get these gems? I rarely manage to find anything as beautiful in a charity/second-hand shop.

So if you want to find out more you will have to check in with Anna.

I hope you have enjoyed our cosy coats feature. I will be back next week with some health posts.

As always, thank you for reading.

Stay safe and well my friends.

Hilda xxx

Hi Hilda, I love your cosy coats, but living in south Texas I don’t have a need for many coats, plus I fear anything puffy will make me look heavier than I am. I’m crazy about Gail’s military style jacket and am forcing myself not to buy it. xoxo, Brenda

You definitely do not need cosy coats where you live. Thank you for reading though. Looking forward to buying your book xx

I love TK Maxx and do envy you have access to one nearby. It’s almost 6 months since I was last off island to shop and I would have snapped this coat up if I’d seen it. I love the length as well as the hood, and the colour – all in all, it’s a fabulous buy!

I always only wanted stylish coats, but if course they were never warm enough. Let’s just say, I’m older and wiser, lol.

I don’t know how Anna finds all her gems and I don’t know how you always do so well in TK Maxx because I’ve never had any luck in there! I love your coat, rare combination of stylish and cosy. Great challenge x

I see nothing wrong with an obsession with coats Hilda. They are truly functional and so cute. Heck, even I still buy them and I live in AZ where we don’t quite need them as much as you do.

I actually counted my coats last night. I am not talking jackets. I have 23. I thought about 12.
