Power Dressing is this month’s theme in ‘Style Not Age’.
WHAT IS POWER DRESSING?
Initially, when power dressing was a new trend, back in the ’80s, women wore suits to make an impression in the workplace. They dressed more like men to show they were every bit as capable of climbing the corporate ladder. But power dressing has evolved.
Nowadays, women want to feel confident AND comfortable. Clothes maketh the man (and woman). So the right clothes make us feel invincible, ready to take on the world.
MY TAKE ON POWER DRESSING
I decided to go with a suit, albeit one that is unstructured. There are small shoulder pads to give it shape. Remember the big shoulders from the ’80s which I loved at the time. Get rid of the heels and wear with runners for a different vibe.
Borrowed from Studio 124, a local boutique, it costs just €145. I shopped my wardrobe for the simple white shirt (worn untucked) from M&S. To give some added punch, I added red shoes and my recently (gifted) red phone bag from Bags by Landa. You might also notice my red lippy. I used the colour red to say ‘do not mess with me, I mean business’. Red is associated with power and danger as well as passion and love.
I enjoyed my power posing. So with phone in hand and my larger bag (very old) I step out to take on the world, with a smile!
MY ‘STYLE NOT AGE’ FRIENDS
GAIL
Gail took the lead from Vogue who seems to define power dressing these days with bright colours and unstructured tailoring. She does not look too happy with whoever is on the other end of that phone. Again, she is focusing on the power of red and strong colours. You can find Gail on IS THIS MUTTON and see what it is all about!
ANNA
Strong colours are to the fore in Anna’s outfit too. What a fabulous combination! Anna’s shorts suit was new in June from Primark – the fabric is a boucle knit/tweed-effect and both jacket and shorts are lined. Doesn’t she wear it well? As always, Anna includes charity shop finds. You can find her at ANNA’S ISLAND STYLE.
EMMA
And Emma goes for the power of purple. Both trousers and blazer are from Zara and they definitely make an impact. I think Emma is ready to take on the board! Check her out at STYLE SPLASH.
JACQUI
Jacqui, also, goes down the suit road, looking highly corporate in her outfit. Her suit is from H&M and she pairs it with a black blouse and black accessories. Power dressing indeed. Pop on over to MUMMABSTYLISH to find out more.
I had fun power dressing. I hope you enjoyed our interpretations.
Thanks as always for reading and remember you can also follow me on Instagram and FB.

I love your look with the unstructured suit and red accents. You look amazing!
I love all these looks! I can remember wearing a lot of jumpsuits and 2 piece suits (with vest and pants) in the 90’s and yes so many of them had large shoulder pads.
Thank you Joanne. Love that the suit is back…
I love this suit with the long white shirt and red accessories! You look so classy and elegant.
