Gail chose this month’s theme French Girl Style. What is French Girl Style 2024? Well, it depends on what magazine or which blog you read?
But I think we can all agree that it is effortless, yet sophisticated. The French girl/woman is chic. What they all have in common is a strong sense of personal style. Their wardrobes contain basics such as a blazer, a good white shirt, a classic pair of jeans and a trench coat. French women believe in mixing high-street with more top-end pieces, and accessories such as bags, scarves and sunglasses are all key to the overall look.
I wore my outfit (above) to the launch of The Intercontinental Hotel’s luxury outdoor summer dining on The Terrace, tucked away in the gardens from the bustle of Dublin city. From now until the end of September, between 12pm and 10pm, you can enjoy the most divine food in a serene setting. It was a cold evening for the launch, but we were very cosy, under heaters.
My blazer is old H&M and the wide-legged trousers part of a Selected (Scandinavian brand) suit. Because the evening was cool, I wore a light Italian cashmere knit from Studio 124 and there was little need for sunnies. My much-loved red leather phone-bag from Landa Bags (previously gifted) made another appearance. Slingbacks with fish-net ankle socks completed the look. I will have to show them off next time.
ANNA
Anna has a definite personal style which is usually very colourful, so this is a more muted look for her. But Anna always has a touch of the dramatic and I see it here in her tulle skirt with cowboy boots. Her jacket also looks to have some embellishments. And, of course, she has a Christian Dior bag. But you can pop over to Anna’s Island Style for a more comprehensive explanation of the French fashion influences resulting in this monochrome look.
GAIL
Gail’s look is chic, tailored and pared back. The crisp, white shirt loved by the French features, as do pretty amazing pumps. You can find Gail on Is This Mutton where you can find her inspiration for French Girl Style.
EMMA
Emma has let her accessories do the talking with a vintage scarf, vegan bag and some amazing mules. Her jacket, from French brand The Kooples, was the piece around which she built her outfit. Doesn’t she look effortlessly chic? Check her out on The Style Splash for more information.
JACQUI
Jacqui like me went for wide trousers and is letting her jacket do the talking. The jacket has a definite Chanel vibe, I think. And like the others Jacqui adds sunglasses to complete her look.

Isn’t it great that we’re thrown the gauntlet down month after month and never do we look the same or style an outfit in anything that’s similar – I just love that. Your very sophistocated outfit works perfectly for you Hilda xx
I adore your look for this theme! The mix of red and this neutral is so chic!
