I love a good cup of coffee. I only allow myself one a day so it has to be perfect!
For me, it’s not the milky latte or creamy cappuchino – it’s all about the Americano, smooth yet strong and rich!
At home, I get my caffeine fix from our Nespresso machine, well used over the years but still producing the ideal cuppa. The black pod is the strongest flavour so it’s my favourite, preferably accompanied by a square or two of Lidl’s 70% Raspberry or Orange chocolate.
If I’m out and about, I’m always on the look out for the perfect Americano. I have a few favourite haunts where I have gained a reputation for being particularly fussy in demanding a lovely ‘crème’ across the top of the brew.
In Malahide, I’m known to frequent ‘Coffee Scene’ on the Main Street where Yolande (aka Yo-Yo) knows exactly how I like it. Great place to while away an hour chatting and just occasionally a share of a delicious raspberry scone.
Butlers (in the Airport or Pavilions in Swords) is also good, provided the barista isn’t under pressure with long queues, in which case the coffee-making is rushed and the ‘crème’ missing. The complimentary Butlers’ chocolate is always welcome.
If, like me, you enjoy Java Republic coffee, then a visit to the company’s own Roastery near Blanchardstown is highly recommended. It’s open from 7am till 4pm so ideal for breakfast or lunch…and as you would expect, the coffee is spot on!
