‘Flaming June’ may be something of a misnomer as it is very likely that June 2019 might be our wettest June on record. I can tell you that the two most used items in my wardrobe this June are my raincoat and my umbrella.
But I am ever the optimist and hope that there is some good weather ahead. Anyway, there is no point in moaning, as it won’t change the outcome.
I often wonder how I ever worked, as I seem to be busier now than ever before. For those of you who do not ‘do’ Instagram (where I post some of my day-to-day life on Insta-stories), I thought I would give you a snapshot of my past week.
Mondays
Graham and I enjoy our day looking after grandson Logan and this usually involves the park and the library. Last Monday afternoon brought some sunshine and we took the opportunity to go to the beach too. You have to grab the moment. I had a golf match straight after which I lost on the 19th hole!
Tuesdays
I usually play golf, but was wrecked after the previous evening’s battle, so I gave it a miss this week. Instead, I caught up on household chores and grocery shopping. Yes, I do a little!
Wednesday
A walk and coffee with my friend Kathryn started the day and in the afternoon, I was on RTE 1 Radio on the ‘Ray D’Arcy Show’ being interviewed by Kathryn Thomas (with Eileen Smith and Sandra Wilson) about being mid-life Instagrammers. In the evening, we were very kindly taken out to dinner by friends to Pearl Brasserie in Merrion Street. Fabulous food.
Thursday
I walked the beach with Mairead in the morning, met Dee in town and we went to a beauty event (Prai) in Marks and Spencer. I am testing the products and will review in due course.
Friday
GG had a golf lesson with our club pro, which I videoed, then we played some golf.
Saturday
We had a tour of Bewley’s, the iconic Dublin café (my next blog post will have more details ) and then went out for a lovely dinner with friends in Il Sorriso in Malahide.
Sunday
I got a walk in before the expected rain, and then started writing up this blog post. We watched Hitchcock’s classic ‘Dial M for Murder’ during the afternoon.
There were moments of sunshine this week and also some heavy downpours, so I managed a photo for the Flaming June theme with my ‘Style Not Age’ friends:
My kimono from Zara is several years old and I usually throw it on over a top and jeans. This time, I paired it with wide Top Shop trousers and a t-shirt from Marks and Spencer. The t-shirt is the only new item.
Emma is on fire in a beautiful orange dress. Head over to stylesplash to find out more.
Anna, matching the boat and buoys in the background, is in flaming yellow, bringing sunshine despite the rain. Head over to annasislandstyle and find out what she is doing.
Jacqui, also in flaming orange was on a week’s holiday when her photo was taken, so yes she did have heat and sun. Check out mummabstylish and see what Jacqui (whose challenge this is) has to say.
So Flaming June was a little disappointing weather-wise but I am optimistic that we might have a glorious July. Our monthly challenges are great fun and if you want to see some of my favourites so far this year look at Life’s a Ball and Wearing Pastels.
I love your kimono Hilda! It looks so stylish with the wide leg trousers.

Thanks Emma. I love the colours x
Good colour mix Hilda, I love the wide leg trousers and a kimono adds that extra bit of interest to an outfit. Great challenge again, looking forward to the next one. Jacqui Mummabstylish
Yes it was a lovely challenge. Getting my thinking cap on..
Ha! That 19th Hole can get you!
Sounds like quite the week despite the rain. We are experiencing a very cool and gray June here.
You look like sunshine in your kimono, so go spread the sunshine!!
And the rest of Europe is having a horrific heatwave. I would rather have cool weather…
Love all these outfits and bright colors! Hopefully it will spur the summer weather to come!
Much better weather…thanks for commenting.
That kimono is so fun! I love the pattern and the colors!
Thanks and the weather has improved..
Sounds like you had a lovely week. Fun to know you golf☺️
I love your kimono print, the orange and white is so pretty on you. I adore spicy colors that your group is wearing! Those trousers are quite stylish too!

The kimono was a lovely way to join in with this month’s challenge Hilda. I love the look, especially with the wide legged trousers. That’s another one in the bag – well done to all of us!
