This month, we are having a little fun and imagining what we would wear if we were invited to sit at the front row (FROW) at any of the designer shows at London Fashion Week.
The pandemic has obviously changed how it will look and I believe 90% of London Fashion Week in September will be digital, but at the moment it looks like there might be a few shows, all strictly adhering to social distancing of course.
BUY LESS BUY BETTER
Covid-19 has given the industry time to reflect and re-assess its aims and objectives, focusing in particular on the environmental impact on the planet. There is no doubt that we are all buying less, but also thinking more sustainably. It does not necessarily mean that we have to spend a lot of money. You can just as easily find an item of clothing in H&M that gives you joy.
I am shopping my wardrobe more and altering my clothes too. I am trying to shop in second-hand stores, but that is proving to be a more difficult task for me. But that is another story.
AUTUMN 2020
Anyway, it is time to think of transitional clothes and layering as we approach Autumn. And we have had some stormy and rainy days in Ireland recently. I have noticed a cooling in the temperatures too.
So, what are we going to be wearing this Autumn/Winter? Whatever you like is my opinion. Wear the colours, the styles, the trends that you want to wear. Dramatic sleeves are still ‘big’, mini and maxi lengths are in. But the biggest style change can be seen in footwear, I think. High heels are definitely not as popular; flats and runners are everywhere it seems.
WHAT I AM WEARING AT FROW
I have eschewed my usual oranges and reds and opted to wear a black jacket and leggings from Spanx. You can find them at Arnotts Dublin or online at www.arnotts.ie
The Zara shirt is last year and the so-comfy boots are also last season from Van Dal.
First of all the stretch leggings made to look like leather (starting price about €95) are unbelievably comfortable, slimming and flattering. Once you but these leggings, there will be no going back to any other brands. Yes they are that good. These will get plenty of wear this year with different shirts, jumpers, jackets.
The drape-front jacket has lovely faux leather details with pockets and thumb holes for the really trendy among you (€175).
The hat is a few years old from Anthony Peto. The watch was gifted from Nordgreen and the sunglasses are Primark/Penneys.
MY ‘STYLE NOT AGE’ FRIENDS AT FROW
Gail (who came up with this challenge) has given us the perfect look and pictures for FROW. She is obviously very taken with the fashion on show and I just love her triptych of her reactions. What a lovely outfit and I fancy she would give Anna Wintour a run for her money. Find out more by popping over to IS THIS MUTTON.
Anna is attending a fashion show that is in the park and is clearly enjoying the experience. How fresh is her gingham dungarees and white shirt. Those shoes are so cute too. And where did she get that pink bag? ‘Check’ her out on ANNA’S ISLAND STYLE!
Jacqui was papped before she landed in her seat at the show (FROW) and this is a totally different look for her. Jacqui likes her heels normally and this layered look is out of her comfort zone. I think she looks fabulous. Find out more on MUMMA BE STYLISH.
Emma is in her back garden on her way to the show. Are they pleather city shorts? Where did she get that amazing, statement bag? You can get your answers on THE STYLE SPLASH.
Funny how we all went for a less colourful look than normal, with black featuring prominently. Stay safe, my friends, in these very uncertain times.
Very cool outfit Hilda, the hat is the finishing touch! I have heard great things about Spanx leather look leggings and now I’m definitely interested.
Seriously flattering Gail. x
It is amazing how you were all black and white basically. But I love that we are exploring our closets more. Especially finding ways to make piece work with alterations.

Wasn’t this a great challenge? Your take on this is very rock chick Hilda and oh how you’d make some heads turn as you made an entrance to the Frow. And yes, wouldn’t it be great if we gals could hook up for an event like this!
