Well, July you were rubbish. However, I must admit that I will take the rain rather than the horrifically high temperatures that many endured around Europe. Also, we did escape the rain when we went to a wedding in Dubrovnik, where the weather was fabulous. Finally, got a post up on Saturday about it.
STYLE NOT AGE
Gail chose the theme this month ‘Kimono my House’. Seemingly, it is the third studio album by American rock band Sparks in the 70s. That must have passed me by, as I never heard of them. But, luckily, I love kimonos and have a few in my closet, which you may have seen over the years. My favourite was featured last summer HERE
So, I pulled this paisley-patterned kimono out of the wardrobe recently and realised I had not worn it this year. When heading out with some girlfriends last week, I threw it on. And that is what is wonderful about a kimono; it can immediately add colour or even elevate an outfit. Particularly when you need an extra layer, reach for a kimono. Kimonos were originally a traditional Japanese garment, but have now evolved into everyday fashion items worn all over the world.
We needed to get some shopping done first, so it was a perfect opportunity to get some pics.
I actually cannot remember where I bought this kimono and the label ‘Studio’ did not help. But, I shopped my wardrobe for everything. And you have seen these wide Topshop trousers many times. Plus the shirt is on repeat; it is Halston Heritage bought in Arnotts many many years ago. You can just see the fab cuffs in the pics.
IS THIS MUTTON
Gail’s kimono is from John Lewis. Loving the floral print, all colours found in the garden. How unusual is the colour of her sandals. You know where you can find Gail. Yes, over on IsthisMutton.
ANNA’S ISLAND STYLE
Anna’s linen overshirt/kimono and linen trousers are both new, from Number 36 boutique in Penzance, worn with an old vest top and silver/white sandals from TK Maxx (also old). Did you notice that the colour of the kimono is picked up in the peachy flowers. You can find out on AnnasIslandStyle.
MUMMABSTYLISH
Jacqui is a vision in white. Her lace cover-up/kimono was a gift from a good friend. Check her out on Mummabstylish
STYLE SPLASH
Have you noticed that so far we have all worn white/off white trousers and with the exception of Gail kept the tops in the same colour? Enter Emma, who is wearing a kimono jacket bought on eBay years ago. It’s by a brand called Darling. And she has paired her kimono with canary yellow trousers and earrings. Forget white! Pop over to The Style Splash and learn more.
So goodbye July. And hello August.
Hope you are all enjoying Summer wherever you are. Stay well. And dig out those kimonos. Perfect for the imperfect weather.
Love Hilda
I don’t own a kimono. They are not that popular here in Europe, or at least in the Netherlands. But its a gorgeous one you are wearing.
Looks great.. So versatile.
You’re very observant, we did all use white instead of Emma! And top marks for the Sparks mention – their big hit from the album was This Town ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us.
Love your kimono, classic shape and print x
Another super challenge completed, it’s nice to see all our looks together. Have a wonderful weekend Hilda, Jacqui
