When Lumity reached out to me and asked me if I would like to try their supplements, I accepted. I had done my homework and knew that they were popular with many celebrities, that they have won numerous awards and that they are backed by scientific research.
They had done their homework too and knew that I could be the ideal consumer.
MY HISTORY
I am the Supplement Queen. Many people believe that all you need to stay healthy and well is to eat a varied nutritious diet. This MAY work while we are young.
I believe that as we age we need to supplement our diet with vitamins and amino acids etc.
At various stages in my life I have supplemented my diet with vitamins of one kind or another.
While I was in college, I was low in iron and had to take iron tablets. When I was in peri-menopause, I tried various supplements to help alleviate the symptoms. I even wrote a POST about it about five years ago.
Then a few years later (over 10 years ago), I became very run down, a combination of stress and long hours. I ignored all the signs until I eventually hit rock bottom and collapsed. I had huge boils on my legs, I was unable to get out of bed. My immune system was shattered. It also was the topic of a BLOG POST.
Various alternative treatments and supplements got me back on my feet, but I still suffer from severe fatigue from time to time.
THE PRESENT DAY
To take Lumity, I came off the following supplements:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
- Zinc
- Selenium
- Magnesium
- Omegas
I take these all year around. Sometimes, I run out and I forget to renew for a while. But, because I do not sit out in the sun and I wear sun factor, I am fanatical about talking a Vitamin D supplement, particularly as 10 years ago I was borderline osteopenia and my Mum has osteoporosis.
LUMITY: THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE BRAND
Lumity was created by scientist Sara Palmer Hussey PhD. Following years of research into the process of ageing, she was fascinated with the role nutrition and supplements play in keeping us healthy. With a weakened immune system herself, she set about creating an advanced formula of vitamins to help support healthy ageing and the immune system.
LUMITY SUPPLEMENTS – MAIN INGREDIENTS
Vitamin A
You might be familiar with retinol used to help fight wrinkles. Well, in a supplement form, it also fights fatigue and is good for your hair and eyes.
Vitamin C
An antioxidant and vitamin, it fights free radical damage and helps stimulate collagen.
Vitamin D
I have written a lot about the importance of this vitamin HERE (good for your cartilage, discs, teeth and bones etc.). And, of course, there is the recent research of the role it plays in fighting Covid 19. Lumity contains the full recommended daily value of 600iu.
Vitamin E
This vitamin helps in hormone regulation and helps protect fatty acids.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Flaxseed Oil
Both of the above help guard against cell damage, repair skin from the inside out and combat photo-ageing and sun damage caused by exposure to UVA and UVB radiation.
It also includes minerals such as Magnesium, Selenium, Iodine and Zinc. You can far more information on the LUMITY website.
MY REVIEW
Initially, I felt that they were very expensive.
Then I added up what I currently spend on the supplements I take and there is very little difference in the price.
I admit I was surprised.
What I like is:
1. The purity of the product
Lumity is free from fillers, binding agents and preservatives found in many other brands.
2. No fiddling around with fitting them into my routine
I had to organise my myriad of supplements previously to take some before food, some after food, some morning, some evening. Here the hard work is done for you. All your requirements are in three capsules in the morning and three different capsules in the evening. See the pictures below.
The supplements are taken at the optimum time, first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
3. Nails
I noticed a huge difference in my nails; they have required cutting at least twice a week (normally once every two weeks) and despite having gel on them for 10 weeks are in excellent condition.
4. Hair
My hair is definitely silkier. Yes, I require a cut and colour…like nearly everyone else. But you know, I am pleased with its condition.
It is now nearly four months since I saw the lovely Darren in CROW STREET COLLECTIVE.
5. Skin
I find it more difficult to judge my skin. We do know that good skin starts on the inside, but I am very happy with my skin’s hydration, particularly considering that I am missing all my in-salon treatments.
DISCLOSURE
I did not promise to do a review, but I was gifted the product by Lumity. I have only used the supplements for a month and I am very interested in continuing to use them. At the moment, they have a reduced price offer if you buy three months.
I never invested in supplements, but perhaps now is the time. It sounds good!
I am a believer, but you need to have specific supplements, targeted for women. I like these because I was taking most of the ingredients/vitamins individually.
This is a really interesting post, I have osteoporosis so will definitely look into getting these. Thanks for a great recommendation!
Thanks for reading Celine. You take care of you. xx
I’m glad that you mentioned how you came off certain supplements to take Lumity. A lot of people just keep adding more vitamins/minerals to their daily intake without realising that some of them can be harmful in quantities. I’ve been taking Imedeen for over 10- years and the couple of times I stopped takng it I noticed a deterioration in my skin. So definitely worth finding the supplement that works for you.
Thanks Gail and now that I have finished them and am taking nothing, I notice a deterioration in my sleeping, I have less energy and I feel my skin is not as hydrated. I think I will have to re-order.
Hilda,
I must say I am not very consistent with taking supplements and know I need to take them especially Vit D. Many of my vitamin bottles end up not getting used before the expiration date because I don’t consistently take them. Because of the wasted nutrients (and money) the idea of Lumity appeals to me. Looks easy to take!
Best,
Nancy
Yes that is one of the reasons I love them. Also I am off them over a week now and have decided to reorder because I see a difference in my energy, and my skin too. They are expensive but I think they work for me.
Hilda,
I am using more supplements now than when I was younger.
Vitamin D has been written up this year for COVID19 so it’s now on my shelf!
That’s why northern Europe did so well when Spain and Italy did not even though they have plenty of sun.
Great review!
Hugs,
Robin
Yes I am a great believer in Vit D. I love the idea that all the necessary vitamins and minerals are in Lumity. So easy to take.
