Goodbye 2020
I believe that most of us (probably everyone) are happy to see the back end of 2020. Personally, it has not been all bad as we welcomed our third grandson on my birthday on December 9th.
And we managed to get through the various restrictions including the FIRST LOCKDOWN without too much difficulty. We are in the privileged situation of being retired and live in a lovely seaside location with plenty of places to walk.
Of course, we missed seeing our family and friends. And like everyone else we missed out on family events, weddings, holidays but we zoomed to beat the band and facetimed too. I even wrote a POST on what we did to get us through it.
I realise that many people lost loved ones and were unable to have the support of family and friends. Others have lost jobs and are worried for the future. So, I consider myself fortunate.
And here we are in 2021 in another lockdown in Ireland with even worse statistics than we had back last March. It is difficult to stay positive, but stay positive we must.
So for my first post of 2021, I am going to remind you to:
LOOK AFTER YOUR HEALTH
EXERCISE
I walk daily, use some weights a few times a week and do some yoga. Not all on the same day. And the yoga is very basic and only for ten minutes or so.
EAT WELL
We try to eat fish twice a week and I could be a vegetarian, but Graham loves meat. We did over-indulge at Christmas on the sweet things so I need to get back to my usual routine.
TRY TO GET QUALITY SLEEP
If I am worried about anything I tend to find it difficult to get to sleep or else I wake at about 3 and fall back to sleep at 6. I have been taking Lumity Supplements and they definitely helped as well as giving me incredibly strong nails.
SUPPLEMENTS
Unless you have been hiding under a stone, you will know that there is huge evidence that Vitamin D could help to prevent you getting Covid.
Vitamin C also has a role to play. I am a huge fan of Somega products.
And Zinc too.
STAY BUSY
Graham and I often joke that we are busier now than when we worked. Helping out with our grandchildren is both a pleasure and a privilege. But also tiring. We need plenty of energy to keep up with them.
And we play golf when not in lockdown and Graham also plays tennis and sails. But, we also read a lot and I have posted about my favourite BOOKS and the excellent TELLY we have watched and I will be sharing more soon. Below you can see one of my top books last year and a television series such as ‘Call The Midwife’ I highly recommend.
FINALLY
Wash your hands.
Use sanitiser if out in supermarkets etc.
And wear a mask.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Thank you for reading and supporting my little blog. I will continue to do more of the same and share my top beauty products and beauty treatments. There will be some fashion, if I ever get out of my leisure wear and lots more on health and fitness.
STAY SAFE.
This too will pass.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
THAT WAS MY FATHERS BIRTHDAY!!!!WHAT A GIFT TO HAVE GRANDSON BORN ON THAT DAY TOO!!!

XXX
Keeping yourself occupied, be it exercise, hobbies etc is key I think. What would we do without our blogs!? Happy new year Hilda xx
Happy New Year Laurie. Yes the blog takes up time too… sometimes too much.. x
Happy new year Hilda. You are doing all the right things but for me fashion has taken a back seat. I find I wear the same jumpers and leggings or jeans all the time. I make a lot of my own clothes but haven’t felt very inspired as just need to keep warm. You do live in a beautiful area. We tend to do a similar walk most days and could drive to find more but don’t, especially now with new restrictions.
I know what you mean about fashion. It is very much casual for me too, unless I am going shopping or for an appointment. We will get back to it….in time xx
Keeping warm and cosy is key. And keep walking ..xx
New subscriber here, Hilda;) I’m glad you’ve been fortunate through these trials, as have I. Good reminders of how to try to stay sane and healthy until this beast has been beaten. Best wishes for 2021!
Thank you so much for reading. We just have to make the best of this terrible time and count our blessings. x
Thank you very much. Yes stay safe and healthy too.
Oh exercise realy works for me, just like enting healthy.
You are a girl after my own heart. x
Hi! I popped over from Elizabeth‘s place. Nice to meet you! Oh, these are all such important reminders and I’m dreadful at most of them although I do try. Sleep is the toughest for me thanks to restless leg syndrome. What a ridiculous thing to live with, no? As for the others – eating properly, exercise — those are a bit more within one’s own power, or at least mine. Nonetheless, I’ve been delinquent for months! I do have a question for you — you mentioned masks. Several times In recent months I’ve googled and poked around trying to find some sort of mask to cleanse and brighten my “woman of a certain age“ facial skin. But I get completely overwhelmed and confused. Do you have any recommendations? (Nothing too expensive please.) I’ve never used a mask. All suggestions are welcome! And wishing you a very healthy and happy new year.
I used to have restless leg syndrome.. Magnesium and potassium are important. And are you having enough salt in your diet? Masks… I think L Oreal OR Seoulista sheet masks are excellent with hyaluronic acid. I always go for moisturising ones because my skin is dry. They are reasonably priced. Thanks so much for reading. xx
Dear Hilda.
I enjoyed your blog for the New Year very much. I was very interested in your information on Lumity, which I hadn’t heard of before. I, also, find it hard to get to sleep at night. I tend to wake after a few hours & then not be able to drop off quickly again, with the result that I have not had an undisturbed 8 hours for years. I will try the Lumity, not least because it has had such a good effect on your nails & mine are very weak
I would also love to know the type of exercises you do with weights. I absolutely hate walking but would be more inclined to exercise with weights.
Wishing you & yours a happy & more positive 2021,
Fran Whyte
Hi Fran. It is the magnesium that helps sleep which is included in Lumity. But you can buy it separately. Try Lumity for a few months. I find it amazing. I find it easy to have all I need in one product. Also ,I do not drink coffee after 1 do oc in the day and tea after 4. Have you tried yoga? Just some simple stretches? I do a little every night 5 minutes. I went to a trainer and got some simple exercises using free weights. I will be putting up a post soon.20 minutes twice or three times a week. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year to you.
Great advice Hilda. Sending best wishes to get you through this lockdown.
Thanks Jan. You stay safe too. But I think Australia has it under control.
Happy New Year, Hilda!
What a delightful gift of a new grandchild on your birthday!
Your seaside walks look so inviting.
Yes, we do have so much to be grateful for, and I, too am looking forward to a fresh new 2021!
Be happy, healthy, and well!
Rosemary
Thanks Rosemary. I hope that we are well on the way to it being over by the summer. xx
I’m trying to think more positive this year, having had Coronavirus I feel things can only get better! Thanks for a lovely post Hilda. Jacqui x
Jacqui I am so glad you have started to feel better. xxx
Happy New YEar Hilda!
Yes, good bye 2020~ My mom has been with us since last April, so we have her company!
Certain days are harder than other, but I just try and do my best each day. Exercise helps in many ways, and I am utilizing my home gym or walking outside when it isnt cold. You have some lovely scenery there!
My mom loves the show, Call the Midwide”, so I will need to check it out now! I have been watching Bridgerton and am really enjoying that!
Have a good week!

Thanks Jodie. Yes Vit D certainly seems to help.Stay safe.xx
Beautiful post, Hilda. 2020 was such a difficult year. We are still struggling financially because of it, but I know we will make it. Like you said, others did not do so well. Great tips and reminders and oh, I need to see Call the Midwife!
We will get through it and you are walking and hiking and now making masks, I see. In Ireland those who lost jobs or who cannot work are getting a pandemic payment which helps. And yes you will love ‘Call The Midwife’. Hugs xx
Great post Hilda, I’ll definitely try Lumity when I finish my supply of Perfectil Nails (I bought 3 for 2 a little while ago in Boots) so have a bit to go. Like you I appreciate having somewhere beautiful to walk and its been my saviour since Covid hit. American Dirt was my book of 2020 too, but look forward to reading many more in 2021. I’m in the lucky position to be able to work from home in this lockdown, but I would gladly suffer the 90 minute round trip tp my office if we are all on the other side of this pandemic. We have the spring to look forward to and hopefully a return to normal (probably a new normal) at some stage this year. My husband is the new Captain of our golf club and has joined me as a member (my Christmas present, yikes!! , so I better keep some time and energy for that. Working from home has made me appreciate ‘being at home’ so I am seriously considering going on a 4 day week, and reducing my work hours gradually into retirement within the next few years. Throughout covid time I have managed to keep a decent routine, with early morning exercise before work and try to dress appropriately in case I have zoom/MS teams meetings during the day. By that I mean I dont languish in my pj’s or athleisure wear. That way I enjoy being in them at other times, and often get into my pj’s and dressing gown before I relax for the evening. I’m a firm believer in separating work from homelife and set boundaries to ensure I do, like switching off work emails, trying to stay away from laptop, keeping my office space clear at weekends (if not midweek evenings). Fresh air, whatever the weather is a great cure for mental muddle.
I love them. Not sure if I will have to pay more because of Brexit though…
