‘Style Not Age’ Sequins Challenge

Monday, 31 December 2018 by Hilda
I have only one item with sequins in my wardrobe, a top I bought in Oasis years ago but have never worn. I love sequins on others; they are sparkly, they shine and catch the light, so why don’t I wear them? I consider myself a sparkly fun-loving person, so surely it should be reflected

Gift Guide Part 2 – the ‘Smelly Stuff’

Tuesday, 18 December 2018 by Hilda
My most memorable gift when I was teenager was perfume. Who remembers ‘Charlie’, a floral fragrance with sandalwood and musk produced by Revlon? The perfume epitomised the modern girl and I considered myself one of those. The TV and print advertisements with Shelley Hack (later of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ fame) in her jumpsuit was the girl

My ‘Style Not Age’ friends are Keen as Mustard.

Monday, 26 November 2018 by Hilda
Mustard is one of those colours that you either love or hate and those friends whom I asked are mostly haters. As for me, I am not even sure why I chose it, as mustard is not a colour that I find particularly easy to wear. However, I do enjoy a challenge. Our last theme

Hyaluronic Acid is my New Hero Product

Monday, 12 November 2018 by Hilda
I had been sent some products by Pestle & Mortar, including their Hyaluronic Serum, and  I was delighted that I had it to use when I returned from India. My skin was in a dehydrated state, probably the worst it has ever been, presumably the travelling and then the bout of severe sinusitis on my

‘Style Not Age’ are ‘Frill Seekers’

Monday, 29 October 2018 by Hilda
‘Frill Seekers’ is the challenge for our ‘Style not Age’ group this month and I must admit that I found it a challenge. When it comes to frills, I am quite muted. Let’s face it, frills add bulk, so they can be difficult to wear. I tend to keep frills to a minimum in a

Boot Up with Van Dal Boots

Wednesday, 17 October 2018 by Hilda
These Van Dal boots are made for walking! Those of you who follow my blog might be aware that I have foot issues,  (not a foot fetish) so I find it difficult enough to find comfortable, yet stylish and attractive boots. I have several pairs of FABULOUS boots which I am only able to wear

Pampering Simone Mahler Facial at Bespoke Beauty

Wednesday, 10 October 2018 by Hilda
Nothing beats a facial when you want to feel pampered. Recently, I have had Micro-needling, which while very effective, is certainly not pain-free, and a TriPollar facial, which while not painful could hardly be called pampering. But I was in for a real treat with Elaine, owner of Bespoke Beauty in Donnnybrook in Dublin…she is,

Life’s A Ball with ‘Style Not Age’ Challenge

Monday, 24 September 2018 by Hilda
The theme for this month’s Style not Age is ‘Life’s a Ball’. ‘You feel very romantic when you’re in a ball gown. Everyone should wear one once in a while.’ – Carolina Herrera (dress designer) Nowadays we have very few occasions when we (as in ladies) can wear what is considered to be a ‘ball gown’.

Best Tips on How to Find Bras that Fit and Enhance your Bust

Thursday, 30 August 2018 by Hilda
Can we talk about BRAS?  I remember the excitement of getting my first; I was the last in my year, as I was what was termed ‘a late developer’ in the boob arena. The mortification. How I longed to dance around in my underwear like the other girls. (I was in a boarding school, so

‘Style not Age’ goes Wild about Animal Prints

Monday, 27 August 2018 by Hilda
It’s a jungle out there! We have gone wild this month in ‘Style not Age’ and it is all about the animal print. Did you know that animal skins have long been associated with power? African Chiefs and Napoleon’s army (who trimmed their helmets and saddles with leopard) wore it to convey strength and bravery.

The Return of the Trouser-Suit

Tuesday, 05 June 2018 by Hilda
I was obsessed with suits, particularly trouser-suits, when I was a teacher. When I first started teaching, there was quite a strict dress code in my school and that included no trousers. Gradually, dressy trousers were allowed and so began my obsession with The Trouser Suit. Coco Chanel created the first skirt suit, but it

How to find the right Mother-of-the-Bride Dress

Monday, 14 May 2018 by Hilda
Mother-of-the-bride dress hunting is much more difficult than I imagined it could be.  In 10 weeks’ time, my daughter, Logan’s mum, will be getting married. The excitement is mounting, the venue is booked, Kirsty has her dress, Courtney, the only bridesmaid has hers and I still do not have mine, though I have contenders. I

Urban Decay Eyeshadows review of ‘The Petite Palette’

Thursday, 10 May 2018 by Hilda
Urban Decay Eyeshadows are not my usual go-to choice when it comes to my eyes. Maybe it is because I consider the brand to be aimed at a younger, a much younger, market. But my daughter had left this very attractive ‘petite palette’ out waiting to be borrowed and it was small enough to fit
